I’m a fan of country music, so naturally my favorite place downtown in Moonshine Flats! It may not be a “true country bar” but I mean it is in the Gaslamp. It fits the nightlife culture here with a country twist. I think that’s what makes it so great! It really is the best of both worlds. It is the place to go downtown when you don’t want to be in a loud, overly packed club or you don’t want to go to a snobby lounge.
The music here is not just pure country music, at least on the bar side. They play a great variety of hits, oldies, and country goodies. On the stage side, between like 10 and midnight, they have a live band playing country songs, and then around midnight they switch to current music until close. When you walk into the live music side, you might feel like you just stepped into a scene in Footloose. There’s a huge dance floor (with line dancing on weeknights), lots of colorful disco lights, loud music blasting, and a balcony along the edges that overlooks the dance floor. It makes for great people watching!
At Moonshine Flats, it is such a great atmosphere to let loose with friends. It is laid back but also trendy. I like how there is a dance floor section to shake it, and a bar side with games. I always find myself going back and forth! On the games side, they have cornhole, giant beer pong, pool, table tennis, foosball, and more!
The bartenders here are very friendly, and attentive. Make sure you try the Peach Mule – it’s delicious!
There is a $10 cover charge but if you go online and put your name on the guest list, you wont have to pay the cover as long as you are there before 10.
